Brushing up on my Irish brogue and sheet music skills to prepare for my role of BRETON BERET in an actor-musician cast of A Man of No Importance at Good Theater for their finale production!

This will be Good Theater’s final production to finish out their 21 year residency at The Hills Arts (FKA The St. Lawrence Arts Center) in Portland, Maine. I respect the company greatly for their efforts to provide local industry professionals regular gigs at a great rate of $20 an hour, with a highly agreeable rehearsal schedule. Seriously, what a commendable feat that is. Other companies around the state should take note and follow their lead by supporting local actors in the same way that Good Theater has for two decades. There is a chance they may continue if they find a new space, but regardless their loss will be one felt by the local industry for certain.

I’m lucky to have been able to share some of my authenticity in this show and to help coach some of my fellow actors on their dialects for the show.

As a 3rd generation Irish-American, I breathe with the heat of the passion of my ancestors and house their rebellious nature in my bones. Free Ireland! Free all from systems of oppression!

I promise to maintain this fire and always speak out against the abusiveness and exploitation that myself and my fellow actors in this industry have to face. It’s not out of malice, that I speak or critique, but out of a love for all those who experience an imbalance of power without the means to advocate for themselves.

So, after singing their praises, is this company completely free of faults? No, the distribution of power within the company itself is wildly out of wack and allows for almost zero accountability for members of the administration. I believe that as industry professionals and caring community members, we ought to hold one another accountable for things like this, again not in a malicious way, but in a way that is for the betterment of all. Shouldn’t we all want to help one another achieve greatness? I believe so.

To Jackie, David, and all the other wonderful people that made this show special, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
